PETERS HAS ESTABLISHED A CLASSROOM COMMUNITY WHERE ALL FEEL WELCOMED, LOVED, AN SAFE. I OFTEN SEE FORMER STUDENTS RUN TO HER ROOM TO SAY HELLO AND GIVE HER A HUG . THAT IS THE KIND OF RELATIONSHIP CREATED WHEN YOU HAVE A TEACHER LIKE MS. PETERS. SHE IS AN ASSET TO THE WETHERSFIELD STAFF. SHE LEADS BY EXAMPLE, SHARES WILLINGLY, COLLABORATES WITH HER KINDERGARTEN TEAM , AND IS A TRUE TEAM PLAYER. AS A LEAD TEACHER, I RELY ON MS. PETERS'S INPUT AND KNOWS SHE WILL ALWAYS HAVE OUR STUDENTS AND FAMILIES BEST INTEREST AT HEART . ALYSSA PETERS IS NOT ONLY A BEST TEACHER BUT SHE IS AN EXTRAORDINARY PERSON. SIGN ELEMENTARY STUDENTS HAVE HAD A SHOWING OF MIDSUMMER'S NIGHT DREAM, SAFETY WORKSHOPS, A TRIP TO THE COLLEGE ZOO, AND HOSTING AN ANNUAL TALENT SHOW. OUR MIDDLE SCHOOLERS AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ARE NOW MEETING WITH OUR COUNSELOR TO SELECT HORSES FOR THE UPCOMING YEAR. MRS. KESLER RAN A A THROUGH G WORKSHOP. DECREASING CHRONIC ABSENTEEISM HAS BEEN A FOCUS FOR OUR WHOLE SCHOOL THIS YEAR. WE ARE CELEBRATING OR REWARDING THE POSITIVE IMPACT OF CONSISTENT AND ONGOING ATTENDANCE. STUDENTS HAVE BEEN EARNING POINTS FOR A WEEK AS WELL AS FOR EVERY DAY THEY ARE ON CAMPUS. THE LAUGHTER AND TEAMWORK ON DISPLAY REMINDED US HOW SPECIAL SCHOOL COMMUNITY TRULY IS. WE ARE ALSO PROUD TO CELEBRATE SOME ACADEMIC AND EXTRACURRICULAR ACHIEVEMENTS THIS MONTH. TRAVEL TO NEW YORK CITY TO COMPETE IN THE 2025 YOUTH BUSINESS SUMMIT.

THEIR STUDENT-RUN VIRTUAL BUSINESS MADE IT THROUGH THE FIRST ROUND OF COMPETITION AND WAS ONE OF THE TOP 12 TEAMS IN THE COUNTRY. AN INCREDIBLE ACHIEVEMENT AND A TESTAMENT TO THEIR CREATIVITY AND COLLABORATION. THEIR SUCCESS SHOW HOW RIGOROUS COURSEWORK ARE PREPARING OUR STUDENTS FOR A FUTURE BEYOND HIGH SCHOOL. IN ADDITION, WE WOULD LIKE TO RECOGNIZE SEVERAL ARE JUNIORS WHO COMPLETED -- WHO IN THE CALIFORNIA STATE SCIENCE FAIR. THE STUDENTS HAVE WORKED TIRELESSLY ON THEIR PROJECTS AND ARE INCREDIBLY PROUD OF THEIR ABILITY TO REPRESENT ON SUCH A PRESTIGIOUS ACADEMIC STAGE.

THESE ACHIEVEMENTS IMITATE HOW CURIOSITY AND BEARS ARE ALIVE AND WELL ON OUR CAMPUS. UPON ARRIVING THE ONLY PHRASES IN ENGLISH I KNEW WERE HELLO, HOW ARE YOU, I AM FINE, AND OF COURSE THINK YOU. I RECALL A FLOOD OF EMOTIONS AS MY DAD WAS DRIVING ME TO SCHOOL FOR MY VERY FIRST DAY OF GOING TO SCHOOL WHERE NO ONE SPOKE THE SAME LANGUAGE AS ME. I WAS FRIGHTENED BECAUSE I KNEW ZERO ENGLISH. I WAS ANXIOUS I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO MAKE ANY FRIENDS BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY I WAS TERRIFIED OF WHAT YOU ENFOLD AND WHAT TO ANTICIPATE. I REMEMBER THE FIRST TIME I STEPPED FOOT INTO AN AMERICAN SCHOOL AND I WAS AMAZED BY HOW THE STUDENTS FROM THE STUDENT BODY GREETED ALL OF THE OTHER STUDENTS. THEY MADE ME FEEL WELCOMED, BELONGING, AND VALUED. AT THAT INSTANT, I KNEW I WANTED TO BE ONE OF THEM . SOMEONE WHO IS DEDICATED TO MAKING PEOPLE FEEL INCLUDED. WHEN I ENROLLED IN MY MIDDLE SCHOOL CLASSES, I HAVE A VIVID MEMORY OF THE MOMENT MY APPLICATIONS CAME OUT FOR WEB, WHICH IS WHERE EVERYBODY BELONGS. I MEDIALLY FILLED OUT THE APPLICATIONS AND PRAYED EVERY SINGLE DAY AND A NIGHT THAT I WOULD GET ACCEPTED AND BE PART OF IT AN AMAZING GROUP OF STUDENTS WHO WOULD DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO MAKE POSITIVE CHANGES. THERE WERE ABOUT 75 PEOPLE AND THE TOPIC WAS COOL SAFETY.

SEVERAL HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS SPOKE TEARFULLY ABOUT SEXUAL ASSAULT ON CAMPUS. ONE SITUATION CONCERNED ME GREATLY. A GIRL AT WESTLAKE HIGH SCHOOL WAS REPORTED TO HAVE GONE TO THE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION LAST OCTOBER TO REPORT THAT SHE WAS ASSAULTED ON CAMPUS. FIVE MONTHS LATER, THE BOARD ANNOUNCED A RESOLUTION THAT EXONERATED THE ALLEGED PERPETRATOR, WHICH WAS HEARTBREAKING FOR THE VICTIM, HER FAMILY, AND HER FRIENDS, AND I HAD A FLASHBACK. 20 YEARS AGO AT ANOTHER HIGH SCHOOL IN ANOTHER DISTRICT, THREE FRESHMAN GIRLS CAME TO MY OFFICE TO REPORT THEIR FRIEND, ANOTHER FRESHMAN GIRL, HAD BEEN RAPED ON CAMPUS DURING LUNCHTIME. THERE WAS A VERY WELL-DEVELOPED SCHOOL POLICY AND PROCEDURE THAT WHICH WAS FOLLOWED TO THE LETTER. ONE OF THE FEMALE COUNSELORS JOINED ME. THE SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER WHO INTERVIEWED THE FRESHMAN GIRL AND THE SENIOR BOY HAD OTHERWISE ASSISTED IN THE INVESTIGATION. THE PRINCIPAL AS PER DISTRICT POLICY NOTIFIED THE SUPERINTENDENT AND THE SCHOOL BOARD PRESIDENT AND SIX DAYS AFTER THE ASSAULT, THE PRINCIPAL MET WITH THE PERPETRATOR OF THE PARENTS TO INFORM HIM THAT HAD THEIR SON WAS BEING REMOVED FROM THE SCHOOL. AS A RETIRED ADMINISTRATOR AND A FATHER OF THREE GROWN DAUGHTERS, I AM ALMOST AT THE POINT OF OUTRAGE THAT YOUR ADMINISTRATIVE TEAM APPEARED TO HAVE DRAGGED THEIR FEET FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME .

WE KNOW THE VICTIMS OF SEXUAL ASSAULT ARE TRAUMATIZED, ASHAMED, FEARFUL OF REPRISAL FOR SPEAKING, FEARFUL OF NOT BEING BELIEVED. DESPITE TO REQUEST FOR HIS EMERGENCY REMOVAL WERE DENIED. ACCORDING TO THE DISTRICT POLICY IT WAS DETERMINED THE ALLEGATIONS DID NOT ESTABLISH THE ATTACKER POSES AN IMMEDIATE THREAT TO THE SAFETY OF OTHERS THAT WOULD JUSTIFY AN EMERGENCY REMOVAL. JUST LAST WEEK I HAD A CLOSE FRIEND TOLD ME A GIRL IN HER CLASS HAD TAKEN A VIDEO OF A BOY TAKING PICTURES OF MY FRIEND UNDER HER SHORTS. I WANTED TO MAKE A QUICK NOTE THAT APPARENTLY LAST WEEK WAS NATIONAL ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL APPRECIATION WEEK SO I WANT TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO DO CRITICAL WORK EVERY DAY. I WANT TO NOTE ONE OF THE DISTRICT MEDICATIONS THAT WENT OUT PAST WEEK WAS TO SHARE INFORMATION FROM THOUSAND OAKS ON E-BIKES SAFETY. AND I WANT TO THANK THE POLICE DEPARTMENT. I ENCOURAGE ALL FAMILIES TO READ THAT INFORMATION THE DISTRICT SENT OUT. THEY HAVE REALLY NICE GRAPHICS. THERE HAS RECENTLY BEEN MORE ON SOCIAL MEDIA AND KIDS ON E-BIKES BUT I HAVE ALSO HEARD FROM PARENTS AND STAFF ABOUT THEIR CONCERN ON E- BIKES FROM THE LAST YEAR OR TWO JUST THE SAFETY AROUND AND ON CAMPUSES. PLEASE TAKE HEED AND THINK ABOUT SAFETY, PLEASE. I DON'T WANT TO REHASH EVERYTHING, I THINK EVERYONE HAS MENTIONED EVERYTHING I HAVE BEEN TO IN THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS.

JUST THE GREAT JOY WAS ALSO THE CTE INAUGURAL SHOWCASE. IT WAS AMAZING. THE JOGGER PHONE WAS SO MUCH FUN. PERFORMANCES LIKE HIGH SCHOOL AS WELL AS THE AMAZING DANCE SHOWCASE AT NEWBERRY PARK HIGH SCHOOL AND ULTRA IS ACCESSIBLE WHICH I WENT TO LAST NIGHT AND THERE WILL BE A FEW MORE NIGHTS TO SEE IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF MONTHS.
