IN THE FIRST WEEK OF QUARTER THREE, NINE STUDENTS RETURN TO THEIR HOME SCHOOL , FIVE STUDENTS GRADUATED WE HAVE 50 NEW STUDENTS ENROLLED THIS QUARTER. FORTUNATELY, SEVERAL STUDENTS ON THE OPPORTUNITY TO RETURN TO SCHOOL BUT RELATES CVH AS IS WHERE SCHOOL IS. IN ADDITION, WE ARE RECOGNIZING FIVE STUDENTS FROM QUARTER TWO FOR THE OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE IN SCHOOL AND POSITIVE CHARACTER TRAITS. WE LOVE TO RECOGNIZE OUR STUDENTS NOT JUST FOR THE ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE BUT FOR MODELING THE TRUE DRIVING SPIRIT IN OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY. EVEN THOUGH WE HAD NO POWER FOR HALF OF LAST WEEK, STAFF AND STUDENT SUPPORT EACH OTHER AT SCHOOL AS WE MADE SURE EVERYONE WAS SAFE WHILE STILL BEING PRODUCTIVE. FOR QUARTER TWO, WE ARE HAVING A RENAISSANCE CELEBRATION HONORING SOME OF OUR DRAGONS FOR THEIR ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE. THIS IS A TIME TO RECOGNIZE OUR HARD-WORKING STUDENTS FOR THE 90% ATTENDANCE EARNING AT LEAST 2.5 OR MORE CREDITS IN EACH CLASS AND GOOD CITIZENSHIP. WE HOPE THIS ENCOURAGES OTHER STUDENTS TO KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AND ATTENDANCE. LASTLY, WE INTRODUCED A NEW CLASS, SOUND ENGINEERING. LED BY KENNEDY, WHO IS A LOCAL PROFESSIONAL MEDICINE. I ALSO WANT TO GIVE A HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL OF THE STUDENT GROUPS FOR UNIFIED'S SPORTS, THE BLACK STUDENT UNIT, JEWISH UNION AND SDA THAT HOSTED FANTASTIC LUNCH TIME ACTIVITIES. THESE ACTIVITIES BROUGHT THE STUDENTS TOGETHER AND MAKE SURE EVERYONE HAD AN EXCITING DAY WHETHER IT WAS A SERVICE PROJECT SUPPORTING HEALTHCARE WORKERS, MAKING BLATANT LINKAGE FOR DRIVES OR COMING TOGETHER TO HAVE FUN, IT WAS CLEAR WE ALL SHOWED UP TO MAKE IT A WEEK OF INCLUSION. WE ARE SO INCREDIBLY PROUD THAT THE STUDENT GROUPS CAME TOGETHER TO SUPPORT SUCH A WONDERFUL CAUSE. IT IS MOMENTS LIKE THESE THAT REMIND US HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO WORK TOGETHER AND SUPPORT EACH OTHER. IN ADDITION TO THESE WONDERFUL LUNCH TIME ACTIVITIES, OR FUTURE WARRIOR NIGHT WAS A HUGE SUCCESS. THE EVENT HAD A FULL HOUSE AND IT WAS AMAZING TO SEE PERFORMANCES BY ALL REQUIRE, BAND, DANCE TEAM, AND CHEERLEADERS. THE WINTER CONCERT GLOW WAS A HIGHLIGHT OF THE EVENING. IT IS BEEN SO GREAT TO SEE CHOIR MEMBERS PERFORM AROUND DIFFERENT VENUES AROUND ONE AS WELL. DEDICATION TO MUSIC AND PERFORMANCE FULLY SHINES. WE ALSO HAVE A MENTAL CONCERT WEEK WHERE WE ENJOYED THREE NIGHTS OF BEAUTIFUL MUSIC. WE SAW PERFORMANCES FROM DREAMS, JASMINE, PERFORMANCE BAND. EACH OF HIS CONCERTS WITH A TESTAMENT TO THE HARD WORK AND TALENT OF OUR AND I THINK WE CAN ALL AGREE THAT OUR SCHOOLS MUSIC PROGRAM IS PRETTY TOP-NOTCH. WE ALSO HAD AN EXCITING WINTER SPIRIT WEEK LAST WEEK WHERE EVERYONE CAME TOGETHER TO SHOW THEIR SCHOOL PRIDE. THE ENERGY AND ENTHUSIASM WAS CONTAGIOUS AND IT REALLY BROUGHT THE ENTIRE SCHOOL COMMUNITY CLOSER. AS WE HEAD INTO BLACK HISTORY MONTH, WE LOOK FORWARD FOR MORE OPPORTUNITIES TO LEARN, REFLECT, CELEBRATE, THE RICH HISTORY OF BLACK AMERICANS.

ON WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY, WESTLAKE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL OPERATED WITHOUT POWER LEAVING CLASSROOMS COLD, DARK, AND UNFIT FOR LEARNING. TEMPERATURES IN THE ROOMS WERE AS COLD AS IT IS OUTSIDE AND THAT NIGHT IT DROPPED DOWN TO 46.8 DEGREES. TEACHERS BROUGHT LINKAGE FOR THE STUDENTS WHEN IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT PARENTS BE NOTIFIED TO DRESS THE CHILDREN IN LAYERS, THE EMAIL WAS NEVER SENT. THE CLASSROOMS AT WESTLAKE ELEMENTARY ONLY HAVE ONE WINDOW NEAR THE DOOR.
MEANING THAT THE DOORS WERE CLOSED TO BLOCK THE STRONG WINDS AND NOISE. THE ROOM BECAME EVEN DARKER. THE GENERATOR PROVIDED WAS INSUFFICIENT , ONLY POWERING THE PHONE LINES AND BELLS TO MAINTAIN SCHEDULE. PROMISED LANTERNS NEVER ARRIVED. LEAVING CLASSROOMS IN YOUR DARKNESS.
COMMUNICATION FAILURES ADDED TO THE DANGER. FROM 7:00 A.M. TO 10:00 A.M. ON THURSDAY, THERE WERE NO PHONES, NO CELL SERVICE, AND NO FUNCTIONAL WALKIE-TALKIES BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT BE CHARGED. SOME CLASSROOMS HAD NO WORKING PHONES AND EVEN AFTER THE LAND LINES WERE RESTORED, REQUIRING OFFICE STAFF -- I AM SORRY. SOME OF THE PHONE LINES WERE NOT WORKING EVEN AFTER THE LANDMINES WERE RESTORED, REQUIRING OFFICE STAFF DO PHYSICALLY WALK TO EACH CLASSROOM TO COMMUNICATE AND HAD THE FIRE OVER THE HILL HAD RAPIDLY CHANGED DIRECTION. AND I EXPERIENCED THIS FIRSTHAND AND HOW FAST I CAN ACTUALLY HAPPEN. EVACUATION AND EMERGENCY COMMUNICATION WOULD HAVE BEEN SEVERELY HINDERED. IT WAS ALSO BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION THAT THERE WERE NO CROSSING GUARDS AT THE SCHOOLS WHERE THE LIGHTS WERE OUT, POSING A LARGE SAFETY CONCERN FOR CHILDREN. I AM NOT SUGGESTING THE ENTIRE DISTRICT SHOULD HAVE BEEN CLOSED BUT WESLEY ELEMENTARY SHOULD HAVE BEEN. THE LACK OF POWER, UNSAFE TEMPERATURES, COMMUNICATION CHALLENGES, AND PROXIMITY TO THE FIRE THAT CREATED AN ENVIRONMENT THAT WAS NOT CONDUCIVE TO LEARNING OR SAFETY. IT IS ALSO TROUBLING TO HEAR THAT THE TEACHERS ARE HESITANT TO SPEAK UP PUBLICLY ABOUT THESE ISSUES FOR FEAR OF RETALIATION. THE MAIN CHUNK OF THAT WORK WERE THE MAIN BODY OF THAT WORK IS OBVIOUSLY THE SCIENCE CLASSROOM MODERNIZATION MOVING AROUND DR. HAYEK I MEAN I BELIEVE BUILDING E ON THE CAMPUS. AGAIN, EVERYTHING THE DISTRICT HAS DONE IN RELATION TO CHOOSING TO GO FORWARD AND MODERNIZE OUR BUILDINGS, MAXIMIZES DOLLARS WE HAVE SEEN AT NEWBURY PARK HIGH SCHOOL AND I THINK REALLY IS GOING TO TRANSFORM THAT CAMPUS MUCH MORE THAN JUST DECIDEDLY BUILDING A NEW BUILDING , WHICH AS YOU KNOW OVER THE YEARS WE HAVE HAD MULTIPLE GOES AT BUT IT JUST NEVER IS QUITE PENCILED OUT. SOME OF THE PROJECTS IN THE PLANNING PHASE AT THE SCHOOL SITES I WILL JUST GO THROUGH.
WE HAVE CLINGMAN MIDDLE SCHOOL NPR UPDATES. THE EARTH MAGNET NPR UPGRADES. MABEL AND HER ENTRY ELEMENTARY. OFFICE RECONFIGURATION AND PARKING LOT UPGRADES. UNIVERSITY CENTER, THE NPR MODERNIZATION. WOULD MODERNIZATION GLENWOOD AND PURE UPDATES. AND MUSIC FROM UPDATES 2000 OAKS HIGH SCHOOL AS WELL.

DEFINITELY A LOT MORE REFURBISHED COMPUTERS WHERE YOU CAN REFURBISHED TABLETS WHERE YOU CAN. BUT I APPRECIATE THE WORK BECAUSE AS YOU CAN SEE, I THINK THE SPENDING IS GETTING A LITTLE BIT MORE FOCUSED OVER THE YEARS. SO, NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE. SO, SOME GOOD NEWS. REALLY, TWO POSITIVE THINGS OUT OF THAT I WILL JUST HIGHLIGHT IS MANY DISTRICTS AND I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY AND WE ACTUALLY JUST TALKED ABOUT IT AT OUR OCTOBER MEETING IS WHEN THEY PASS THESE BONDS RECENT DISTRICTS I THINK VENTURA, THE CITY OF VENTURA AND SOME OF THE OTHERS ARE PUTTING ON THE BACKS OF TAXPAYERS A 30 YEAR BOND AND THIRTY-YEAR REPAYMENT BONDS AND TO ME, AS IF SOMEBODY WAS ON A COMMITTEE THAT IS IN CHARGE OF KIND OF BALANCING TAXPAYER INTEREST AGAINST MAKING SURE THAT THE SCHOOL DISTRICT SPENDS THE MONEY ACCORDINGLY, WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT IT, PARENTS ARE VOTING FOR THESE BONDS . THEY HAVE KIDS IN THE DISTRICT. 30 YEARS LATER, THEY ARE GOING TO HAVE NO KIDS IN THE DISTRICT. 30 YEARS FROM NOW, THEIR KIDS ARE GOING TO HOPEFULLY HAVE KIDS IN THE DISTRICT AND WHAT I APPRECIATE ABOUT OUR CVUSD IS 30 YEARS TERMS, YOU CAN THEORETICALLY HAVE KIDS AND HIGH SCHOOL AND 30 YEARS THE BONDS ARE GOING TO BE PAID OFF AND I THINK THAT IS A TESTAMENT TO HOW WELL THE SCHOOL MANAGES THEIR FINANCES AND REALLY YOU CAN SEE THE HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MOODY'S REPORT AND THE SMP REPORT IS THE DISTRICT CREDIT RATINGS WERE RECENTLY UPGRADED AND IT ALLOWED THE DISTRICT TO REFINANCE THOSE SERIES A BONDS WHICH TO DR. HAYEK'S CREDIT AND HIS STAFF JUST REALLY ISN'T DONE. BEING ABLE TO SAVE ROUGHLY $1.5 MILLION TO TAXPAYERS, IT IS NOT DONE AND IT IS A TESTAMENT TO HOW WELL THIS DISTRICT MANAGES THE TAXPAYER FUNDS BECAUSE WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT IT, THE TAXPAYER SAVINGS THAT I NOTED IN A RECENT LETTER I WROTE TO THE THOUSAND OAKS ACORN, IT IS NOT REALIZED BY THE DISTRICT. THE DISTRICT DOES NOT SAVE THE MONEY. IT IS THE TAXPAYER SAVING THE MONEY. IT IS THE VOTERS THAT SAVE THE MONEY. AND I THINK TO REALLY GO THROUGH A SELFLESS ACT BECAUSE WE DISCUSSED IT AND IF I RECALL, DR. HAYEK, HE SAID IT WAS ABOUT $100,000 OR SO TO GO THROUGH THE REFINANCE PROCESS. IT IS AN EXPENSE. IT IS AN ADDED EXPENSE OF THE DISTRICT HAS NO OBLIGATION TO DO. BUT DID BECAUSE OF REALLY SHOWING THE PUBLIC, SHOWING THE VOTERS THAT THEY MANAGE FINANCES WELL. THEY HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO SEIZE IT AND FROM MY CONVERSATIONS AND JUST PUT IN MY EAR TO THE GROUND TO FIND OUT IF OTHER DISTRICTS ARE DOING THIS, OTHER DISTRICTS ARE NOT DOING THIS. IT IS NOT EVEN COMING ACROSS THE DESK IN TERMS OF IDEAS OF OBLIGATIONS BECAUSE IN THEORY, THE VOTERS VOTED FOR IT. THEY CAN SELL THE BONDS, THEY CAN GET THE MONEY SO THEY WIPE THEIR HANDS OF IT. I REALLY FEEL BAD BEING THE FIRST ONE TO PRESENT BECAUSE THIS WAS REALLY DR. CRAVEN'S IDEA. HE ASKED ME EARLIER IN THE SCHOOL YEAR WHEN I PRESENT WITH HIM AT THE CONFERENCE SO THAT WE COULD SHARE WHAT HAS BEEN GOING ON AT ASPEN ELEMENTARY FOR THE LAST THREE SCHOOL YEARS AND WHAT REALLY STARTED IN BOTH MINE AND SHANE'S FIRST YEAR IN OUR ROLES AROUND THIS TIME OF YEAR IN THAT FIRST YEAR IS WHEN WE WERE REALLY BLOWING UP ALL OF THESE IDEAS TOGETHER IN CONJUNCTION WITH STUDENT SERVICES. SO, WE REALLY EMPHASIZE AND YOU WILL SEE THE IMAGERY OF BRIDGES THROUGHOUT THIS PRESENTATION BECAUSE THAT IS REALLY WHAT WE SEE AND IF YOU HAVE VISITED ASPEN ELEMENTARY AND SEE THE CO-TEACHING CLASSES, YOU REALLY JUST SEE THOSE BRIDGES BETWEEN THE STUDENTS, FAMILIES, BETWEEN THE STAFF. SO CO-TEACHING IS THOSE TWO PEOPLE FOR US. TWO TEACHERS SHARING RESPONSIBILITY FOR TEACHING ALL OF THE STUDENTS ASSIGNED TO A CLASSROOM. AND WHEN WE SAY ALL THE STUDENTS IS BECAUSE ALL OF THE 20 TO 24 STUDENTS ARE IN THE 2K TO DO TO CLASSROOM ARE THE ACCOMMODATION OF STUDENTS WITH IEP'S, GENERAL EDUCATION AND SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER. AND SO THAT CO-TEACHING INVOLVES THE DISTRIBUTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES. THOSE ARE TWO EQUAL TEACHERS THAT ARE WORKING TOGETHER AND HAVE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF ALL OF THE STUDENTS IN THE CLASSROOM. BOTH FOR PLANNING DIFFERENTIATING THE INSTRUCTION AND ALSO ASSESSING AND MONITORING THE PROGRESS OF THE STUDENTS IN THE CLASS. SO, THIS IS A MINI SLIDE TO PUT IT ALL TOGETHER IN ONE.
SO BY DEFINITION, IT IS A COLLABORATIVE TEAM TEACHING.
AGAIN, IT IS A GENERAL EDUCATION TEACHER AND A SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER. THEY PLAN AND TEACH TOGETHER TO SUPPORT ALL OF THE STUDENTS IN THE CLASS AND THEY WORK TOGETHER IN THAT GENERAL EDUCATION CLASSROOM SETTING. WE ALSO HAVE

BEEN FORTUNATE ENOUGH AT ASPEN THAT THE SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER ALSO MAINTAINS THEIR OWN CLASSROOM AND THOSE CLASSROOMS ARE TYPICALLY CONNECTED OR VERY CLOSE IN PROXIMITY TO EACH OTHER SO THAT IT IS VERY FLUID BETWEEN THE TWO CLASSES. THE ADULTS CAN MOVE BETWEEN THE CLASSROOMS, THE STUDENTS CAN MOVE BETWEEN THE CLASSROOM AND THERE ISN'T SOME SPECIFIC LIMITATION OF THIS TIME IN THIS ROOM AND THIS TIME IN THIS ROOM. SO FOR US, IT IS A MIND-SET. CO-TEACHING THAT ALL STUDENTS ARE GENERAL EDUCATION STUDENTS FIRST. AND WE WANT TO BUILD IN THE INCLUSIVE CULTURE INSTEAD OF IMMEDIATELY TRACKING THEM INTO TWO DIFFERENT TYPES OF ELEMENTARY EXPERIENCES RATHER THAN THEY ARE ALL STUDENTS IN TK OR K OR FIRST OR SECOND OR WHEREVER WE ARE NOW AND WHAT WILL BE THEIR SUCCESSES IN GENERAL EDUCATION AND WHAT'S UP WHAT'S DO THEY NEED FROM SPECIAL EDUCATION THROUGH THE IEP PROCESS. AND SO, WHAT WE REALLY SEE IS THAT STUDENTS SENSE OF BELONGING, IS NOT LIKE WHO ARE THOSE KIDS AND THOSE OF THE CLASSROOM? I THINK THEY ARE FIRST-GRADERS. OFTEN TIMES BY DEFAULT, MANY ARE SPECIAL EDUCATION CLASSROOMS MAY BE MIXED GRADE. LIKE EMPTY KK AND 1 STUDENTS TOGETHER. THIS ENABLES US TO HAVE STUDENTS IN THE SAME GRADE LEVEL WITH THESAME GRADE LEVEL PEERS. >> WE TALK ABOUT REMOVING BARRIERS. CO-TEACHING IS VERY COMMENSURATE WITH TTL. WITH HOW WE THINK OF EACH STUDENTS NEEDS AND ABILITIES AND STRENGTHS AND HOW WE BUILD INTO THOSE STRENGTHS IN THE GENERAL EDUCATION CLASSROOM AND HOW WE CAN REMOVE BARRIERS FOR STUDENTS TO THEIR LEARNING AND THAT GENERAL EDUCATION CLASSROOM SETTING. THEY DO NEED INTERVENTIONS BUT THEY ALSO NEED THE EXPOSURE TO THIS AND THEY CAN MAKE CONNECTIONS AND BUILD THOSE BRIDGES BETWEEN THEIR UNDERSTANDING. AND THEN, OF COURSE, CO-TEACHING REALLY ADDRESSES RESTRICTIVE CLIMATES.
WE WANT TO BE COMPLIANT WITH HAVING STUDENTS OUT OF THE GENERAL EDUCATION ENVIRONMENT THE LEAST AMOUNT OF TIME POSSIBLE AND AS DR. IT CLASSROOM IS REALLY A TEACHER'S DOMAIN.
SO THE TEACHERS THAT DO CO-TEACHING TOGETHER REALLY ARE EMBRACING THAT PARTNERSHIP. SO, ULTIMATELY AT THE CORE OF ALL WE DO WHEN WE HEARD THIS NIGHT WHEN WE WERE TALKING ABOUT MEASURE I IS IT IS FOR OUR KIDS. IT IS FOR THE STUDENTS.
PROVIDING THEM WITH THE BEST PROGRAM WE POSSIBLY CAN THAT WILL MEET THEIR NEEDS BUT ALSO HAVE THOSE HIGH EXPECTATIONS FOR THEM AND HELP THEM DEVELOP THOSE RELATIONSHIPS WITH THEIR PEERS. SO, AT ASPEN, THEY REALLY CREATED AN OFFENSIVE AUTHENTIC COMMUNITY CULTURE THE TEACHERS, THE FAMILIES AND ALSO WITH THE STUDENT SO EVERYONE FEELS WELCOME AND THEY HAVE THAT BELONGING ON THE CAMPUS. SOMETIMES, BECAUSE IT IS SEPARATE, IT FEELS SEPARATE WHEN THEY ARE DOING CO-TEACHING, EVERYONE IS WORKING TOGETHER. SO IN CO-TEACHING, OUR STUDENTS AGAIN ARE PROVIDED ACCESS TO GENERAL EDUCATION CURRICULUM. DR. CRAVEN WILL SHARE A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT THE SOCIAL OUTCOMES THAT HE HAS SEEN FOR STUDENTS AS THE ADMINISTRATOR AT ASPEN. ATTENTION AND INTERACTION WITH ALL OF THE TEACHERS ON CAMPUS BECAUSE THEY ARE PLANNING AND WORKING TOGETHER AS A COHESIVE STAFF. REDUCTION OF PULLOUT. AGAIN, REMOVING BARRIERS FOR THEM AND BEING COMPLIANT LEASE RESTRICTIVE ENVIRONMENTS. SO HERE ARE THE SIX CO-TEACHING MODELS. TO THESE LOOK FAMILIAR TO EVERYBODY? STATION TEACHING IS VERY NATURAL FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS. WE CALL THEM CENTERS. BUT IT IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR BOTH TEACHERS TO HAVE A SMALL GROUP OF STUDENTS AND THE OTHER GROUPS MAYBE WITH A PARENT VOLUNTEER WERE WORKING ON A SEMI-INDEPENDENT ACTIVITY SO THEY GO FROM STATION TO STATION. PARALLEL TEACHING MIGHT BE THE ONE THAT WHEN YOU WALK IN, THEY FEEL LIKE A LOT IS GOING ON BECAUSE BOTH TEACHERS HAVE HALF OR PART OF THE CLASS SO ALL STUDENTS IN THE CLASS ARE ENGAGED WITH ONE TEACHER OR THE OTHER SIMULTANEOUSLY IN THE SAME ROOM AND THEY ARE TEACHING. CRAVEN AND I DID THIS MORNING AS WE WERE TEAM TEACHING TO THE GROUP WE WERE PRESENTING TO WHERE WE WERE KIND OF INTERRUPTING EACH OTHER, SUPPORTING EACH OTHER, TALKING THROUGH DIFFERENT PIECES WHICH YOU CAN IMAGINE TAKES A LOT OF PLANNING. AND AT THE FINAL MODEL IS ONE TEACH ONE ASSIST.

THE LANGUAGE IN LEARNING SPECIALIZED PROGRAM IS A PROGRAM WHERE STUDENTS ARE STILL ACCESSING GENERAL EDUCATION STANDARDS, GENERAL EDUCATION CURRICULUM SO WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE WE WERE ABLE TO JUST ADJUST THE PROGRAM TO PROVIDE MEANINGFUL SUPPORT INSTRUCTION. SO IN THE FALL WE WERE WORKING WITH INSTRUCTIONAL SERVICES TO THINK ABOUT WHAT ARE THE STEPS NEEDED FOR THIS TO HAPPEN. AS YOU RECALL THERE WAS A SIMILAR SPECIALIZED PROGRAM AT ACACIA SO THE SIMILAR CONVERSATION ABOUT HAVING TWO PROGRAMS IDENTICAL LESS THAN TWO MILES APART. WE HAD TO THINK ABOUT WAS THE TEACHER FOR BOTH OF THOSE PROGRAMS AND OBVIOUSLY THE DECISION WAS MADE TO COMBINE THE PROGRAMS AND HAVE THEM AT ASPEN KNOWING WE WERE MOVING TO THIS MODEL. SO, SPRING OF 2022, THAT IS WHEN WE STARTED TO ENGAGE WITH TEACHERS. THE FIRST STAKEHOLDER GROUP WITHOUT IT WAS REALLY IMPORTANT TO RULE OUT THE PLAN. THESE ARE IDEAS. AS YOU CAN IMAGINE THERE WERE A LOT OF QUESTIONS. THERE WERE A LOT OF EXCITEMENT BUT THINGS WE NEEDED TO FIGURE OUT AND LOGISTICS AND THINGS WE WERE ABLE TO ADDRESS ACTUALLY CAME FROM TEACHERS. VERY INSIGHTFUL AND THOUGHTFUL QUESTIONS ON HOW IT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN AND THE LOGISTICS THAT REALLY REQUIRED US TO TAKE A STEP BACK AND REALLY BE INTENTIONAL ABOUT THE STEPS WE WERE TAKING BECAUSE THEN QUICKLY IN MAY AS YOU CAN SEE, WE WERE THEN MEETING WITH THE NEXT IMPORTANT STAKEHOLDER GROUP AND THAT HIS PARENTS. WE INVITED THEM. I GAVE EACH PARENT AN INDIVIDUAL TOUR PICK SO THEY CAN SEE THE CAMPUS BECAUSE WE HAVE TO UNDERSTAND THE TRANSITION TO SOME OF THOSE STUDENTS. IT WAS POTENTIALLY THEIR THIRD SCHOOL IN THREE YEARS. WE WANTED TO MAKE IT AS SEAMLESS AS POSSIBLE KNOWING AT THE END OF THE DAY, WE ARE DOING WHAT IS RIGHT FOR KIDS. SO IN THE FALL OF '2022, WE ROLLED OUT OUR FIRST CO-TAUGHT CLASS. IT WAS A KINDERGARTEN CLASS. LAST YEAR, THOSE KINDERGARTNERS BECAME FIRST-GRADERS. IT HAPPENS. AND WE KNEW THAT WE COULDN'T JUST GO BACK TO THE OLD MODEL. WE CREATED THIS PROGRAM FOR THESE STUDENTS AND WE NEEDED TO CONTINUE TO SEE IT THROUGH. SO THEN WE EXPANDED TO FIRST GRADE. AND AS IT HAPPENS, THOSE FIRST-GRADERS THIS YOUR SECOND GRADERS AND SO NOW, THIS YEAR WE ALSO WITH REALLY THE NEW ENTRY POINT IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WITH TK WITH THE EXPANSION OF THE BIRTH DATE RANGE, WE SAW IT REALLY CRUCIAL TO INVEST ALL OF THE WORK WE HAVE DONE IN KINDERGARTEN AND FIRST GRADE INTO TK AS WELL. SO AS OF THIS YEAR AS WELL, WE ARE CO-TEACHING AND TK KINDERGARTEN AND FIRST AND SECOND GRADE. SO THERE ARE FOUR CO-TAUGHT CLASSES.

AND THINGS THAT WERE REALLY CRUCIAL IN ORDER TO MAKE SURE OUR PROGRAM WAS IMPLEMENTED WITH FIDELITY BUT WE ALSO HELD EACH OTHER ACCOUNTABLE BUT ALSO REALLY THOUGHT ABOUT HOW WE WERE BUILDING THE PROGRAM AND DEVELOPING THE TEACHERS, THE STUDENTS, AND FOSTERING THAT CULTURE AT ASPEN. SO WE WILL GO THROUGH EACH ONE ON THE NEXT SLIDES BUT HIRING AND MATCHING CO-TEACHERS IS THE FIRST ONE.
SO, AS IT HAPPENS, WE STARTED WITH KINDERGARTEN AND SO HAPPEN TO HAVE TWO KINDERGARTEN TEACHERS RETIRE. WE ACTUALLY HAD A VETERAN TEACHER TEACHING FOURTH GRADE THAT BELIEVES SO STRONGLY IN WHAT WE WERE DOING THAT SHE VOLUNTEERED TO COME TO KINDERGARTEN AS A GENERAL EDUCATION TEACHER AND TAKE ON THAT ROLE. I ASKED HER TO REALLY WORK WITH ME TO THINK ABOUT WHAT WOULD SHE WANT IN A CO-TEACHER BECAUSE WE DID NOT HAVE THE SPECIAL EDUCATION CO-TEACHER YET AND THAT TEACHER SAT IN ON ALL INTERVIEWS WITH ME AND REALLY MAKING SURE THAT THE PERSON THAT WE HIRED TO BE HER CO-TEACHER WAS REALLY SUITED FOR HER AS A PARTNER. WE TALKED ABOUT THE PARTNERSHIP.
SO, HER VOICE IN THAT PROCESS WAS REALLY CRUCIAL. WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DO THAT AT FIRST GRADE AND THEN SECOND GRADE, WE FOSTERED THE STAFF AND LET THEM COME OVER. WE ALSO RECRUIT NEW POST POSITIONS. SO WE HAVE A GOAL AT EPSON THAT IS ENTIRELY FOCUSED ON STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES WHICH HAS ALLOWED US TO BE INTENTIONAL ABOUT THE RING THIS PROGRAM IN CARVING OUT TIME THROUGHOUT THE YEAR FOR THOSE TEACHERS TO USE THAT EITHER FOR PLANNING OR ASSESSMENT, RIGHT? CLEARLY DEFINING THE STRUCTURAL OUTCOMES AND IT IS DIFFERENT AT EVERY GRADE LEVEL. THEY ARE IN GENERAL EDUCATION 100% OF THE DAY SO IT IS REALLY VARIABLE AT EACH GRADE LEVEL. TEACHER RESPONSIBILITIES AND WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT. CLASSROOM CULTURE. BUT, I AM SO ENORMOUSLY PROUD THAT IT IS AT TIMES LIKE THIS, THAT WE MAKE GOOD ON THE COMMUNITY TRUST, AS THE ESSENTIAL INFRASTRUCTURE OF THIS COMMUNITY, AND WE KEPT OUR STUDENTS SAFE, AND FED, AND AVAILABLE TO SERVICES, AND WITH CARING ADULTS, AND WITH THEIR

WORKING WITH COURTNEY STOCKTON, WORKING WITH ME, PROVIDING FEEDBACK TO US FROM THINGS THAT ARE HEARING FROM THEIR TEACHERS IS ALSO KEY. ULTIMATELY, THIS WILL ALL LEAD TO PLANS IN PLACE. THERE IS A PROCESS WE THINK THROUGH DAILY OF HOW WE DO THIS, SO I THINK OUR SUPPORT TEAM FOR THE GENERATORS AND MAKING SURE THE SCHOOL SITES ARE SAFE BUT THERE ARE BRANCHES AND TREES AND STUFF IN THE WAY THAT THEY ARE CLEARING AS BEST THEY CAN SO STUDENTS CAN BE THERE ALONG WITH CUSTODIAL STAFF WHO WAS THERE EARLY IN THE MORNING WHO CAN REPORT BACK, AS WELL. I COULD GO ON AND TALK ABOUT EVERY POSITION THAT IS DOING REALLY REMARKABLE WORK TO MAKE SURE OUR KIDS CAN GO TO SCHOOL. AND IT IS EASY FOR ME TO SAY, WE ARE NOT GOING TO HAVE SCHOOL WITH NO POWER. HAVING A DISCUSSION, WE CAN ALSO TALK ABOUT MAY BE SOME NOT ONLY SHORT AND LONG-TERM SOLUTIONS AND POSSIBLE ALTERNATIVES AND FINANCING THESE NEEDS.
