MCLAUGHLIN, IT IS OUR PLEASURE TO BE HERE THIS EVENING. I'M HONORED TO BE REPRESENTING AND RECOGNIZING TWO OF OUR WESTLAKE HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS TEAMS THIS EVENING FOR THEIR CIF CHAMPIONSHIPS. BOTH IN DIVISION I WHICH IS AMAZING, AS WELL. WE WILL KICKOFF WITH THE GIRLS TENNIS TEAM. OUR GIRLS TENNIS TEAM THIS YEAR WON THEIR SEVENTH CONSECUTIVE MARMONT HEALING CHAMPIONSHIP AND BACK TO BACK CIF TITLES. THIS YEAR IN DIVISION I WHICH COACH CALLED OUR REBUILDING YEAR.

RECOGNIZE OUR BOYS WATER POLO TEAM. FOR THIS TEAM TO WIN THE DIVISION I CIF TITLE TOOK QUITE A BIT. THIS IS BEEN A CULMINATION OF A NUMBER OF YEARS OF GROWTH AND PROGRESSION FOR THIS TEAM. THE COACHING STAFF HAS DONE A PHENOMENAL JOB. A TRIBUTE TO THE HARD WORK OF THE YOUNG MEN. WE HAD A COACHING CHANGE MIDSEASON BECAUSE OF PRIOR HEAD COACH ACTUALLY WENT TO PEPPERDINE TO BE A COACH. SO TO SEE THE PROGRESSION WITHOUT FAIL WAS AMAZING. IT TOOK THESE GUYS TRIPLE OVERTIME IN THE SEMI FINALS TO MAKE IT TO FINALS AND IN FINALS IT TOOK FOUR OVERTIMES FOR THEM TO WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING ACCOMPLISHMENT FOR THESE YOUNG MEN. AT THIS TIME I WOULD LIKE TO RECOGNIZE THEM,

THEY ARE GOING TO GO IN? >> BOARD PRESIDENT GOLDMAN -- GOLDBERG, THANK YOU FOR RECOGNIZING INCLUSIVE SCHOOLS WEEK ACROSS CONEJO VALLEY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT. AND FOR RECOGNIZING OUR INCLUSION HEROES THIS EVENING. CVUSD CELEBRATES INCLUSIVE SCHOOLS WEEK ANNUALLY IN THE SECOND WEEK OF DECEMBER. THIS THEME WAS EVERY VOICE MATTERS.

ECHOING THE FUNDAMENTAL BELIEF THAT EVERY INDIVIDUAL HAS A UNIQUE PERSPECTIVE AND CONTRIBUTES TO THE RICH TAPESTRY OF OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITIES. THIS YEAR WE ARE PROUD TO SHARE THAT CVUSD SCHOOLS ORGANIZED OVER 140 ACTIVITIES DISTRICT WIDE TO CELEBRATE INCLUSIVE SCHOOLS. IN HONOR OF THIS WEEKEND TO CELEBRATE CONEJO VALLEY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT COMMITMENT TO INCLUSION THE CONEJO VALLEY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT BEGAN A PROCESS OF RECOGNIZING INCLUSION HEROES. HIS HEROES ARE NOMINATED IN RECOGNITION OF THEIR DEDICATION TO CREATING A COMMUNITY OF INCLUSIVITY, KINDNESS, AND RESPECT WHICH ENHANCES LEARNING FOR ALL STUDENTS. THIS YEAR WE HAD 68 SUBMISSIONS FOR INCLUSION HERO.

IT IS A HAVEN WHERE STUDENTS OF ALL BACKGROUNDS, ABILITIES, AND IDENTITIES FEEL SAFE, VALUED, AND CELEBRATED. TRACY'S APPROACH TO INCLUSION IS INSPIRING. SHE ANSWERS -- SHOWS EVERY STUDENT WEATHER ON THE STAGE BEHIND SCENES HAS AN IMPORTANT ROLE. CVUSD ENGAGES STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES MAKING SURE THEY ARE INTEGRAL TO PRODUCTION AND CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES. HER STUDENTS DESCRIBED THE PROGRAM AS A FAMILY, A PLACE WHERE EVERYONE BELONGS THANKS TO HER LEADERSHIP AND CARE. PARENTS AND COLLEAGUES PRAISED HER FOR FOSTERING A CULTURE OF ACCEPTANCE AND BELONGING. ONE PERSON HIGHLIGHTED HER WORK WITH THE LGBTQ PLUS COMMUNITY SHARING SHE MADE EVERY STUDENT FEEL CHERISHED FOR WHO THEY ARE. STUDENTS ECHO THIS, SHARING STORIES OF HOW HER KINDNESS AND ENCOURAGEMENT HAVE HELPED THEM GROW BOTH PERSONALLY AND ARTISTICALLY. UNDER HER GUIDANCE OF YOUR PROGRAM HAS BECOME A PLACE OF INCLUSIVITY AND EXCELLENCE WHILE SETTING THE STANDARD FOR ALL OF OUR PROGRAMS. DENOMINATORS CHAIR SHE HAS BEEN PHENOMENAL WITH MY SON BEGINNING ON HIS FIRST DAY LAST YEAR. HE WAS DUE TO THE CAMPUS, TEACHERS, PEERS, AND INITIALLY HAD A HARD TIME SHARING HIS FAVORITE SWING AT RECESS. SHE WAS SURELY VERY BUSY, BUT TOOK THE TIME OVER A SERIES OF DAYS TO DISCUSS EMPATHY AND KINDNESS AND SHOWS SOLUTIONS ON HOW TO MANAGE HIMSELF. SHE DID THIS WITH INCREDIBLE KINDNESS AND PATIENCE. SHE CONTINUES TO LEAD CONSISTENTLY IN THIS WAY AND IT IS SO INCREDIBLY MEANINGFUL TO THE FAMILIES IN OUR COMMUNITY.

IN THE FIVE YEARS OR SO SHE HAS BEEN A MEMBER OF OUR FACULTY SHE QUICKLY BUILT A REPUTATION AS A TEACHER WHO WELCOMES AND INVOLVES ALL STUDENTS TO STEP FOOT ON HER STAGE EMBRACING ALL THE UNIQUE TALENTS THAT EACH STUDENT BRINGS WITH THEM. IN THE WORDS OF ONE OF HER NOMINATORS, SHE MAKES HER THEATER CLASSES A SAFE ENVIRONMENT FOR STUDENTS OF DIFFERING ABILITIES TO PARTICIPATE WITH THOSE DIFFERENT FROM THEM IN A POSITIVE ENVIRONMENT, LEARNING THE CRAFT AND HISTORY OF THEATER OR THE CRAFT OF TECHNICAL THEATER. MY SON WAS ONE OF THE FIRST SENIORS TO START WITH HER IN HER FIRST YEAR. AS A STUDENT WITH AUTISM IT'S NEVER BEEN EASY FOR HIM, BUT THEATER WAS HIS FAVORITE CLASS EVERY DAY, EVERY YEAR. SHE IS BY FAR ONE OF THE FAVORITE TEACHERS OF STUDENTS ON THOUSAND OAKS CAMPUS BECAUSE SHE MAKES US A WELCOMING FOR ALL. AS EDUCATORS WE AT TIMES TALK ABOUT WHAT OUR VALUE ADD IS AS A TEACHER. THAT IS ASIDE FROM BEING PURVEYORS OF CONTENT AND EVALUATORS OF MASTERY WHICH WE BRING TO THE LIVES OF STUDENTS EACH DAY? ONE COLLEAGUE DESCRIBES HER SPECIAL GIFTS THIS WAY, SHE MAKES EVERYONE FEEL SEEN, SPECIAL, AND INTEGRAL NOT JUST TO THE CLASS, BUT THEIR PLAYS, MUSICALS, AND BEHIND THE SCENES BECAUSE SHE TRULY BELIEVES THEY ARE. I BELIEVE ADDITIONAL REVENUE WILL HAVE TO GO INTO THE RESERVES OR ESSENTIALLY PAY THOSE FUNDS BACK. I DID INCLUDE SOME INFORMATION FROM THE LEGISLATIVE ANALYST OFFICE. THERE IS A LINK ON THE PRESENTATION TO THE ENTIRE REPORT WHICH BASICALLY SAYS THE SAME THING, THAT GENERAL FUND REVENUES ARE BETTER THAN EXPECTED AND THE STATE SHOULD BE ABLE TO ANTICIPATE THE END WE LOOK FORWARD TO THE GOVERNOR'S PROPOSED BUDGET IN JANUARY. THESE ARE CHILDREN WHO CHANGE SCHOOLS DURING THE YEAR BECAUSE OF WORK IN THE AGRICULTURAL, DAIRY, LUMBER, OR FISHING INDUSTRIES. THEY ARE ELIGIBLE FOR THREE YEARS FROM THE DATE OF THE LAST MOVE. SPECIFICALLY ALSO COVERED UNDER MCKINNEY-VENTO. AT THIS POINT WE HAVE ONE IDENTIFIED STUDENT IN THE DISTRICT IN THE MIGRANT PROGRAM. THAT HAS LED TO AMBER ATTENDING COUNTY MEETINGS FOR MIGRANT EDUCATION AND PROVIDING SERVICES TO THAT STUDENT. WE KNOW THEY HAVE HIGHER CHRONIC ABSENTEE RATES. THAT IS SOMETHING WE ALSO FOCUS ON DEVELOPING THOSE RELATIONSHIPS TO GET THEM TO SCHOOL. BUT IT IS INTERESTING THAT NATIONWIDE THE 48% OF STUDENTS EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS ARE CHRONICALLY ABSENT. ALMOST HALF. OUR NUMBERS, WHILE NOT IDEAL AND CERTAINLY NOT OUR GOAL, ARE LESS THAN HALF OF THAT. I THINK THAT IS BECAUSE OF OUR RELATIONSHIPS. DISRUPTION IN LEARNING. STUDENTS OFTEN HAVE DIFFICULTY FOCUSING. THEY MAY LACK A QUIET PLACE TO DO THEIR HOMEWORK. THEY MAY LACK -- THEY MAY HAVE LEARNING GAPS. THEY MAY HAVE HAD INCONSISTENT SCHOOL. WE KNOW THAT THEY MAY HAVE EMOTIONAL MENTAL HEALTH STRUGGLES BECAUSE OF TRAUMA AND STRESS, ESPECIALLY WITH STUDENTS IN FOSTER CARE. ALMOST EVERY STUDENT IN FOSTER CARE WILL HAVE EXPERIENCED SOME SORT OF TRAUMA. IT CAN CAUSE EMOTIONAL INSTABILITY, ANXIETY, DEPRESSION. SOME STUDENTS IN THESE SITUATIONS MAY HAVE COME FROM A FAMILY WITH DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. THOSE STUDENTS ARE AT A HIGHER RISK OF VICTIMIZATION . SO IT IS IMPORTANT WE CONNECT THEM NOT ONLY WITH COMMUNITY RESOURCES, BUT ALSO MAKE SURE THEY ARE CONNECTED TO SITE STAFF, TO DR. I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU TO TRUSTEE GOLDBERG FOR HER SERVICE THIS PAST YEAR AND THE PRESIDENCY. A VERY LONG HISTORY WITH THIS DISTRICT . A DEEP LOVE FOR AND THE PEOPLE IN IT. THAT IS VERY IMPORTANT AND HOW SHE LEAVES AND HOW MUCH SHE DOES FOR THIS DISTRICT. THANK YOU THANK YOU TO MY COLLEAGUES FOR ENTRUSTING ME WITH THE PRESIDENCY. I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO THE OPPORTUNITY.

I'M ALSO THINKING ABOUT 2025. I KNOW THERE ARE A LOT OF FOLKS FEELING MAYBE A LITTLE NERVOUS ABOUT WHAT IS TO COME. I AM ACTUALLY FINDING WHEN I THINK ABOUT PUBLIC EDUCATION IN THE DISTRICT IN GENERAL I AM THINKING ABOUT ALL OF THE THINGS THAT WE DO NOW. WE KNOW OUR SCHOOLS SHINE. WE KNOW WE HAVE GREAT STRONG FISCAL MANAGEMENT. INCREDIBLY TALENTED DISTRICT LEADERSHIP TEAM AND STAFF AND SO MANY PEOPLE DEDICATED TO STUDENTS. WE'VE SEEN EXAMPLES OF THE AS WELL AS THE GREATER COMMUNITY AND THE SUPPORT. SEEN ALL THE EXAMPLES OF ALL OF THAT TONIGHT IN THE LAST THREE HOURS AND 10 MINUTES. SO I'M FEELING REALLY POSITIVE ABOUT 2025 AND I HAVE NO DOUBT IT WILL BRING GOOD THINGS AS WE CONTINUE TO WORK
