TO RECOGNIZE THOSE INDIVIDUALS INVOLVED IN BUILDING OF PROGRAMS THAT SUPPORT INCLUSION AT OUR COMPREHENSIVE HIGH SCHOOLS. ALL THREE OF OUR COMPREHENSIVE HIGH SCHOOLS CONTINUE TO BE RECOGNIZED BY SPECIAL OLYMPICS AS UNIFIED CHAMPION SCHOOLS. UNIFIED CHAMPION SCHOOLS SHOW THEIR COMMITMENT TO THE IDEALS OF INCLUSION WITH SPECIAL OLYMPICS SUPPORT THROUGH INCLUSIVE YOUTH LEADERSHIP , UNIFIED SPORTS AND SCHOOL ENGAGEMENT. IN ADDITION TO BEING RECOGNIZED AS A CHAMPION SCHOOL, EACH SCHOOL WAS AWARDED A GRANT TO HELP PAY FOR BUSES, LUNCHES, AND OTHER CLUB NEEDS.

ONCE ON THE FIELD OR THE COURT OUR STUDENTS SHOW THE COMMUNITY WHAT INCLUSION IS ALL ABOUT. AT THE SCHOOL ENGAGEMENT OR WHAT WE CALL FANS IN THE STANDS IS WHAT SETS THE GAMES APART. EACH SCHOOL HAS THEIR OWN FLAIR INCLUDING SPARKLES, SPORTS MEDICINE, THE LIST GOES ON AND ON. UNIFIED SPORTS HAS GROWN TREMENDOUSLY INTO MULTIPLE EVENTS THAT ARE PREPARED BY CLUB MEETINGS AND PRACTICES. CO-TAUGHT PHYSICAL EDUCATION CLASSES AND UNIFIED PE CLASSES. THE PROGRAM CONTINUES TO GROW AND WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE WITHOUT THE PASSION OF SUPPORT OF THE MANY INVOLVED. I GIVE MY THANKS AND GRATITUDE TO OUR COACHES AND TEACHERS WHO PRACTICE WITH STUDENTS AND TO PUT IN COUNTLESS HOURS TO WRITE THE GRANTS SO THAT WE CAN BE UNIFIED CHAMPION SCHOOLS. WE HAVE FOCUSED ON LEARNING HOW OUR LGBTQ STUDENTS ARE SUPPORTED THROUGH CVUSD AND HOW THEY ARE REFLECTED IN OUR EDUCATIONAL SETTINGS. OUR PROUD TO BE ME ACTIVITY WAS PUT ON AT 11 SCHOOL SITES. AND THE SECONDARY SUBCOMMITTEE HAS BEEN TIME GATHERING INFORMATION DIRECTLY ABOUT THE NEEDS OF MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TO PLAN FUTURE SUPPORTIVE EVENTS. A NEWLY FORMED CURRICULUM SUBCOMMITTEE WAS FORMED. IN 2024 AND 2025 WE PLAN TO CONTINUE THESE EFFORTS AND INCREASE THE PERCENTAGE OF REPRESENTED SCHOOL SITES. THIS REMARKABLE GROWTH HIGHLIGHTS THE INCREASING INTEREST AND ENTHUSIASM FOR FLAG FOOTBALL AMONGST OUR CHILDREN, BUT ESPECIALLY WITH YOUNG WOMEN AND GIRLS. THE GIRLS FLAG FOOTBALL TEAM HAS ADDED A JV TEAM SO WE NOW HAVE A JUNIOR VARSITY TEAM WHICH MEANS 25 MORE SPOTS BUT WE DO NOT HAVE JV COACHES. WITH THE RAPID EXPANSION IN A NEWLY SANCTIONED SPORT COMES THE CHALLENGE OF ENSURING WE HAVE RESOURCES TO SUPPORT OUR ATHLETES. RIGHT NOW THE PROGRAM IS IN DIRE NEED OF JUNIOR VARSITY COACHES TO PROVIDE THE GUIDANCE, TRAINING, AND MENTORSHIP THAT THE STUDENTS NEED. AS THE NUMBER OF FEMALE ATHLETES REGISTERING CONTINUES TO INCREASE, THE IMPORTANCE OF STAFFING BECOMES MORE CRITICAL.

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE SPORT CANNOT BE OVERSTATED. USA FOOTBALL AND IFAF HAVE ESTABLISHED PIPELINES AND -- WITH THE SCHOLARSHIP COMING IN THE NCAA IS GOING TO FOLLOW SUIT IN 2025. THESE OPPORTUNITIES OFFER STUDENTS A PATH TO SECURING MUCH-NEEDED SCHOLARSHIP MONEY FOR COLLEGE AND THE CHANCE TO REPRESENT OUR COUNTRY ON THE OLYMPIC STAGE.

ENSURING THAT OUR GIRLS FLAG FOOTBALL PROGRAM RECEIVES THE SAME LEVEL OF SUPPORT AS OTHER SANCTIONED SPORTS IS CRUCIAL.

MORE AND MORE SCHOOLS AND THE ENTIRE PUBLIC UNIVERSITY SYSTEM OF FLORIDA AND GEORGIA HAVE BROUGHT BACK THE REQUIREMENT FOR STUDENTS TO TAKE THE SAT OR ACT WHEN APPLYING FOR ADMISSION. THERE ARE MORE EVERY WEEK THAT ARE BRINGING BACK THAT REQUIREMENT.

LAST WEEK I TRIED TO SIGN MY RISING JUNIOR UP FOR THE SAT'S AND FOUND THERE WAS NO LOCATION AVAILABLE FOR HER TO TAKE THE TEST IN AUGUST. THAT DOES NOT MEAN A LOCATION THAT WAS CONVENIENT TO ME. THAT MEANT THERE WAS NO LOCATION IN THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA THAT WAS AVAILABLE TO TAKE THE SAT. SO I CHECKED THE NEXT DATE, TOBER. AGAIN, WHEN YOU GO TO THE SAT BOARD, THERE WAS NOTHING AT ALL WITHIN THE SEARCHABLE AREA OF CALIFORNIA TO TAKE THE TEST. THE FIRST DATE THAT I COULD SECURE IN THE CONEJO VALLEY WAS NOVEMBER 2024. ACCORDING TO THE COLLEGE WHERE THEY HAVE BEEN REACHING OUT TO EACH OF THE SCHOOLS IN CVUSD WITH NO RESPONSE. I DO NOT KNOW IF THAT IS TRUE. THAT IS WHAT THEY TOLD ME. I DON'T WANT TO ACCUSE ANYBODY FALSELY. AS OF NOW, NEWBERRY PARK HIGH SCHOOL IS THE ONLY SCHOOL IN THE DISTRICT THAT ADMINISTERS THE S.A.T. ON SATURDAYS. I REALIZE THAT THERE ARE MANY COMPLEXITIES WITH ADMINISTERING A TIME AND LABOR INTENSIVE TEST LIKE THE S.A.T. I THINK THAT WE ARE UNIQUE WHEN YOU CONSIDER ALL THAT GOES INTO SUPPORTING OUR STUDENTS IN TERMS OF NUTRITION, PHYSICAL ACTIVITY, AND MENTAL HEALTH. I AM REMINDED OF THE PRIVILEGE THAT I HAVE IN BEING A PART OF THIS WORK. THIS YEAR MR. GORBACK LED DISCUSSION ABOUT SHORING UP, IF YOU TAKE THIS IS A THREE PRONG STOOL, THE TWO PRONGS ARE PHYSICAL LIKE TO THE AND MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS.

WE WERE DOING GREAT IN TERMS OF THE AREA OF NUTRITION BUT WE NEEDED MORE VOICES AT THE TABLE THAT FOCUSED ON THESE AREAS. WE WERE ABLE TO IDENTIFY LEADERS IN EACH ONE OF THESE AREAS.

VIRGINIA IN THE AREA OF NUTRITION AND JASON FOR PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND MYSELF FOR MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS.

WE HAD FIVE MEETINGS AND ALL SCHOOL SITES IDENTIFIED A WELLNESS COORDINATOR. ALL SCHOOL SITES ARE ENGAGING IN EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES RELATED TO NUTRITION, SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL , AND MENTAL HEALTH. THESE ARE WITH THE MEETINGS COVERED. THE FIRST WAS REALLY A BRAINSTORMING MEETING TO JUST START TALKING ABOUT THE THINGS THAT WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE FOCUSED ON AND DISCUSSED. WE HAD FOCUS BREAKOUTS ON NUTRITION, PHYSICAL ACTIVITY, UNTIL HEALTH AND WELLNESS. WE HAVE CREATED A RUBRIC THAT WILL ACCOMPANY THE IMPLEMENTATION PLANS NEXT YEAR WHEN THEY GO OUT TO THE SITES.

IT IS IN DRAFT FORM AND IT WILL BE PRESENTED AT THE FIRST MEETING NEXT YEAR. THAT TAKES HIGHLIGHTS OF INFORMATION THAT WE TOOK FROM THE BREAKOUTS AND ALSO FROM ALL OF THE IMPLEMENTATION PLANS. THE NEW FEDERAL REGULATIONS, I DON'T KNOW IF YOU HAVE HEARD ABOUT THIS BUT THEY ARE STILL TRYING TO TWEAK THE SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM. SOME THINGS THAT THEY ARE TRYING TO DO THIS YEAR. THEY WANT TO CHANGE IT SO THERE WOULD BE NO FLAVORED MILK IN THE SCHOOLS BUT THAT DID NOT FLY. WE WANT THE KIDS TO GET THE CALCIUM.

WHEN WE DID CHANGE TO ONLY DOING WHITE MILK, PARTICIPATION , THE KIDS JUST DID NOT TAKE IT . RIGHT NOW OUR PERCENTAGE OF WHAT KIDS TAKE IS ABOUT 20% WHITE MILK AND 80% CHOCOLATE MILK SO IT IS IMPORTANT THAT WE CONTINUE TO OFFER THAT. FOR FALL 2024, NO CHANGES TO THE FLAVORED MILK STANDARDS AND WE WILL BE OFFERING ADDITIONAL MENU OPTIONS. FOR FALL 2025, THE USDA IS GOING TO ENFORCE A LIMIT ON ADDED SUGARS IN YOGURT, CEREAL, AND MILK. THE MANUFACTURERS CURRENTLY ARE MAKING THOSE CHANGES NOW AND I EXPECT THOSE TO ALL BE AVAILABLE BY JANUARY SO IT WILL BE WELL IN ADVANCE OF 2025.

FALL 2027, ADDED SUGARS WILL BE NO MORE THAN 10% OF WEEKLY CALORIES. SODIUM, THERE WILL BE A 10% REDUCTION FOR ROCKFEST AND A 15% REDUCTION FOR LUNCH. IT WILL BE A CHALLENGE. I WOULD LIKE TO ASSURE YOU OUR MENUS ARE ALREADY MEETING THAT SO I AM NOT CONCERNED. WE HAVE REIGNITED OUR CATERING DEPARTMENT AND WE HAVE A GREAT NEW COORDINATOR AND SHE IS DOING A TERRIFIC JOB. SO, THAT IS IT IN A NUTSHELL. IT IS HARD TO PUT A WHOLE YEAR IN A FEW MINUTES. I WANT TO ECHO WHAT TRUSTEE GILL SAID ABOUT LAST WEEK . ALL OF THE SERVICES WERE AMAZING AND WENT OFF WITHOUT A HITCH. I KNOW THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT NEED TO BE THANKED AND APPRECIATED AND IT JUST TAKES A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF PLANNING AND I AM FORTUNATE THAT I JUST GET TO SHOW UP AND I GET A FRONT ROW SEAT TO IT. I HEARD SO MANY AMAZING AND HEARTWARMING SPEECHES FROM PRINCIPALS AND STUDENTS. THERE WERE SOME GREAT MUSICAL PERFORMANCES. THE AMOUNT OF TALENT WE HAVE IN THE DISTRICT IS SO AMAZING TO SEE. PEOPLE COMMENTED THAT THEY WATCHED THE LIVESTREAM SO A BIG SHOUT OUT TO RICHARD LAKE FOR MAKING THAT HAPPEN. HE SET UP EVERY HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION AND I GOT LOTS OF REALLY GREAT FEEDBACK ON THAT SO THANK YOU. A VERY QUICK SHOUT OUT TO ONE OF THEIR ACTIVITY, WHICH I THINK ALL OF US ATTENDED. THE ETHNIC STUDIES TEACHERS CAN GIVE A PRESENTATION AT THE LAST BOARD MEETING. THEY INVITED US TO THE END OF YEAR CELEBRATION AND, IT WAS AMAZING. WE GOT TO SEE STUDENT PROJECTS THAT WERE DISCUSSED. THERE WAS AN ARRAY OF FOOD AND WE GOT TO HEAR THE DRUMMERS , THE JAPANESE DRUMMING GROUP THAT WAS ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC. STUDENTS WERE ENCOURAGED TO EXERCISE THEIR CIVIC RIGHTS AND COME TALK TO TRUSTEES AND ASK US LOTS OF GOOD QUESTIONS. IT WAS JUST GREAT TO SEE STUDENTS TAKING AN INTEREST IN OUR DISTRICT.
