On February 24th, 2023, CVUSD will present a Black History Month Event. We will provide a live performance from a youth group from Compton, California. 1 Shine Youth Center will perform a variety of routines, ranging from spoken word to poetry, modern dance, and a drumline routine.
The group will travel to two schools to perform during the school day and to one school at the end of the school day. Below is the schedule of rotation to each school's performance:

Should the Board of Education adopt a resolution recognizing March 8, 2023, as International Women's Day and the month of March 2023 as National Women's History Month in the Conejo Valley Unified School District?
INFORMATION:
National Women's History Month began as a week-long observance celebrated the week of March 8, 1980, to honor the contributions women have made to our Nation and society. That week was chosen to correspond with International Women's Day, which is March 8th. The event was expanded to a month-long observance in 1987 on the approval of Public Law 100-9, and since that time, each president has issued an annual proclamation designating March as Women's History Month.

ISSUE:
Should the Board of Education adopt a resolution proclaiming February 27, 2023, through March 3, 2023, as “Read Across America Week” in the Conejo Valley Unified School District in honor of National Read Across America Day on March 2, 2023, and to celebrate a nation of diverse readers?
INFORMATION:
In March, millions of children across the country will celebrate Read Across America Week, an annual event sponsored by the National Education Association and many of the country’s leading literacy and youth groups. The event is co-sponsored by the Unified Association of Conejo Teachers and the District.
Schools will participate in activities such as inviting local celebrities and politicians to read to students in the classrooms; encouraging students, teachers, and parents to visit schools of younger students and read to those students; having family reading parties at the school; and organizing student reading events at the school.

ISSUE:
Should the Board of Education approve the amendments to Administrative Regulation 1325 - Advertising and Promotion?
INFORMATION:
The proposed amendments provide updated procedures and requirements for distribution of flyers as a service to the community. This regulation removes the prior list of approved organizations, and instead creates requirements in which non-profit and other outside users may request to distribute fliers through District means. Tier groups are established in alignment with aspects of the District's updated Facility Use Schedule.

ISSUE:
Should the Board of Education approve Resolution #22/23-20: Authorizing the District to Apply for Grant Funds from the California Energy Commission to Implement a CalSHAPE Program Project?
INFORMATION:
The School Reopening Ventilation and Energy Efficiency Verification and Repair Program is one of the two grant programs under the School Energy Efficiency Stimulus Program, established by Assembly Bill 841 (Ting, Chapter 372, Statutes of 2020). The program authorizes funding to local educational agencies for assessing, maintaining, and repairing or upgrading school ventilation systems to ensure that systems meet certain classroom ventilation requirements. Known as CalSHAPE, the California Schools Healthy Air, Plumbing, and Efficiency Program has award the District $2,931,510.

ISSUE:
Should the Board of Education approve the School Counseling Internship Program Agreement between the Conejo Valley Unified School District and the University of Southern California?
INFORMATION:
The University of Southern California (USC) has an established Master of Education in School Counseling Program that allows USC school counseling students to gain practicum experience in a public school setting. This program requires supervision and facilities where students can gain experience in the public school setting as required in the curriculum. The District has the educational setting, supervision, and equipment needed by the school counseling students enrolled in the USC Master of Education in School Counseling Program and can provide the opportunity for students to obtain their practical learning experience. A District credentialed counselor will mentor, observe, and provide a summary assessment for the students involved in their practicum placement for the District. USC has had this agreement with the district in years prior and the current agreement has expired.

INFORMATION:
Education Code 17604 states “wherever in this code the power to contract is invested in the governing board of the school district or any member thereof, the power may by a majority vote of the board be delegated to its district superintendent, or to any persons that he or she may designate, or if there be no district superintendent then to any other officer or employee of the district that the board may designate. The delegation of power may be limited as to time, money or subject matter or may be a blanket authorization in advance of its exercise, all as the governing board may direct. ISSUE:
Should the Board of Education approve the overnight trip for the TOH Dance Team as described below?
INFORMATION:
Ms. Jaleen Murphy, Dance Team Director at Thousand Oaks High School, and Ms Julie Kirby, Thousand Oaks High School Booster President, request permission to take nineteen (19) students to Anaheim, CA for the USA Nationals Dance Team Competition. The trip will take place on Thursday, March 16, 2023, through Sunday, March 19, 2023. The students will travel via private cars to and from the competition.
Attending this competition will allow these students to complete against other high school dance teams from across California. They will also be able to observe other schools perform.
This trip will be fully funded by Dance Team fundraising. No student will be excluded due to financial hardship.

Should the Board of Education approve a contract renewal with Fulcrum Learning Systems, Inc.?
INFORMATION:
Fulcrum Learning has a unique program offered to our fifth-grade students entitled STAND PROUD. This program includes on-site field days, along with a Ropes Course, at their Culver City location. The company has over 20 years of experience working with the youth and the Conejo Valley Unified School District Elementary Counselors. Social Emotional Learning through Self-Management, Self-Awareness, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills, and Responsible Decision-Making are just some of the components that are covered with their program. Their outside the classroom content actively engage students with hands-on activities to lead, solve problems, make decisions, and work as a team. Strategizing to build leaders and promote team-building is the primary focus for our students.
The program reaches approximately 1,050 of our fifth-grade students.

ISSUE:
Should the Board of Education approve the Workers' Compensation claims for January 2023?
INFORMATION:
The District Workers' Compensation insurance plan is a self-insured plan run by the District. When losses occur, the District's third-party administrator handles the claims. Cases are reviewed, assessed and brought forward for settlement based on the recommendation of our Director of Safety and Risk Management, our third-party administrator, and (when applicable) the attorney representing the District.
As per Board Policy 3320 and in accordance with Government Code 935.4, the Board delegates to the Superintendent the authority to allow compromise or settle claims of $50,000 or less pursuant to any conditions of coverage in the District's JPA agreement or insurance coverage. The following case(s) are brought forward for ratification for the period of January 1 through January 31, 2023.
